John Rambo

I had a half productive weekend, with Saturday being my day of achieving things, and Sunday being my lazy day where I couldn't quite feel good. I used my downtime to watch another movie series I had never seen before: Rambo.

Rambo: First Blood

I had never seen a Rambo movie, and didn't really know what they were like. I had this perception that they were a dude in the jungle with a giant gun killing things, and I was far off for this first installment. This movie is mostly about this guy John Rambo, and how he's dealing with coming back from Vietnam. It was interesting, original and well done. It was fun to watch, as it was kind of a revenge film, in that this police force is mistreating this veteran (poking the bear, so to speak) and it results in forcing his hand, which is satisfying seeing people get what's coming to them.

For the most part, it was a well done movie, although they could've given a bit more character development to John Rambo. Beyond seeing him get mistreated, and that he is a veteran, you don't really have much of a reason to care about Rambo (but you do, regardless).

I would recommend everyone see this movie at least once, it feels like an important film to see, to give it it's place in history in your mind.

Rambo 2

Rambo 2 is like... imagine something deep, dark and serious, like... the first Rambo, or the first Rocky, and then imagine they stripped it of all character and depth, and turned it into a Saturday Morning cartoon. They take this realistic and believable person (John Rambo from the first film) and turn him into this completely different character that doesn't even act or talk like the dude from the first movie. This movie was pretty bad, a very large disappointment. They could've kept going with the more interesting aspects of the first movie but instead turned it into some crazy action movie (no doubt to capitalize on the trends of that time).

Even as a mindless action movie, I found it fell flat and was uninteresting. Rambo is not a likeable, or believable character, he's one dimensional that doesn't even seem human.

Rambo 3

Coming soon... watching now.
