The Presence of Mine Enemies
Today was a weird day...
I woke up around the normal time for a day off, 10:30 or 11:00, and uhhh.. sat down? Yeah, not really much detail to go in to as far as what I did today. I know that some days I can write paragraph after paragraph of things that I've done, felt, thought and said, but not today, today I don't feel like I have that in me.
After getting up, I made a chicken caesar for lunch, well, breakfast and lunch, because I purposly waited a bit before eating so that I wouldn't screw over my apetite for lunch, and sat down and watched the Shield. After lunch, it was after 1pm, so I eagerly ran to the computer and checked out which games were on sale for the daily deals, and after much looking around, I decided on the Heroes V pack, which included Heroes of Might and Magic V, plus two expansion packs, and Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. KotR is a classic game that all gamers can recognize as an awesome game, and as such, I felt I should own and play it at some point, and itw as on sale for $2.50, so it was kind of hard to pass that up. Heroes of Might and Magic is a series of pc games that I've always heard a lot about, specifically from Jeff Green and from the GFW podcast, and it always seemed interesting, and it was on sale for very cheap, for the whole collection of games, so it was easy to grab.
After playing some games for the afternoon, specifically making my way through an annoying as hell FarCry level. Eventually my Sister came and got me and her and Michelle and I went to Shoeless Joe's for dinner, for a second time. The first time was disappointing, and the second time was no better. I mean, it's hard to not be judgemental when I eat placed, because I'm a cook, I know the shortcuts people take, and i know the shortcuts people don't have to take but do anyway. When I see food, I judge it, I size it up and make assumptions about why things are the way they are, and who prepared it.
I ordered the pulled pork sandwich, which came with a side of coleslaw and fries. It sounded good, I love a good coleslaw, and the fries with a hot sandwich is great. The service was good, fast and friendly and all that. The food arrived quickly, but it wasn't that good. It was actually really disappointing. The coleslaw was by far the worse aspect of the meal. It was obviously a bag of coleslaw mix, you know, pre-shredded cabbage, chopped onions, carrot and a few green peppers, but I honestly think the cooks made a mistake, or didn't know any better, because they didn't dress it. There was no dressing on the colelsaw, it was literaly just raw vegetable. It should be marinated in vinegar and sugar, and then mayo and seasoning added to it... it should be this creamy, tangy salad, but it was just this bland, boring, gross raw coleslaw.
Second the pulled work was decent tasting, it was tender pork, with a smoked bbq sauce on it, but just based on the look of it, it seemed to have been frozen, probably bought pre-made in a box. It was formed in the shape of a patty, and if it was homemade, it would've been taken out of an insert with tongs and placed on the bun, and it would've been... I dunno what the word is... fluffy, or at least, not pressed down in a circle. It could've used some salt and pepper too... Lastly, the fries were obviously from a bag frozen, and didn't seemed to be seasoned. Overall, it was a disappointing, terrible meal, made by a bunch of lazy people. The only thing that kind of excuses it a little bit, is the entire meal, plus a drink, only came to $12.
After dinner, we drove by Dairy Queen and bought a blizzard for dessert, and made our way home. Once home, I watched an episode of the Shield, and then played some Phantom Brave. I'm getting really close to the end of the game, but I have a feeling I should level up a bit as I get coser, because the enemies aren't dying as easily anymore, and some of my team is getting to be lower than normal level, and then the few strong members are getting too far ahead, so I need to even it out a bit. One of the main things that's kind of annoying me with the game is that Speed is such an important stat, that not using a dagger or dark weapon (which both increase your speed) is at a huge, giant advantage, because it'll be like.. five minutes into a battle before their turn comes up. So, all my characters, specifically the useful ones, are using the same type of weapon, and they all have the same skills, so all my characters are essentially the same. I'd love it if each of my characters all had a unique set of skills, a unique set of advantages and disadvantages, much like Disgaea. Having just a bunch of clones kind of makes it boring.
After I completed an episode of Phantom Brave, I sat down and Kyle messaged me and asked if I wanted to play Left 4 Dead 2, a game which Calen recently gifted to me on steam. I had never played it, but it's a co-op centric game, so we jumped in and played a level and it was pretty fun. I plan on playing a bit more in the future, and eventually I'll beat the campaign.
After playing L4D2 for a bit, I ran a bath, listened to the morning stream, sat on the couch, turned on Stephen King's IT, and then started writing.
Tomorrow, I've got work from 8-4, and then have to open on Sundays, so not much time to relax over the next couple days, but shouldn't be so bad. I'm going to go to bed soon, well... after the movie is over, and then head to work! Here's hoping it's a good day.
