Eye of the Tiger

Movies from the late 70's and well into the 80's hold such interesting production values... it's sound quality, what they left in but would've been edited out now, some of it his just very odd.

I listened to an episode of Film Sack about Rocky V (and IV) and it reminded me that I had missed that entire chunk of pop culture growing up. I had watched the first Rocky film about six or seven years ago, and thought it was slightly dated but still a decent story, but didn't get around to watching the others. From what I understood, the movies get worse and worse as they go on, with the eventual semi-redemption with the 2006 return.

Rocky

Rocky is a movie about a down and out dude who wanted to box but ended up working as an enforcer for some shadey guy. He's a bit slow, he has a crush on a shy girl, and the movie is the story of him training real hard, getting the girl and the idea behind the movie is that it's not about winning, it's about going the distance and seeing things through.

Rocky II

The second rocky loses a bit of the semi-intellectual feeling of the first movie. It's more aimed at action, the fake boxing portion of the movie, but there is still some significant character development.

Rocky III

This movie kinda throws it's artistic merits out the door and shoves in a bunch of pop culture and feels like it's more of a grab for money. I'm only about half way through but Mr. T is making me uncomfortable.

I've had a pretty lazy day, just sitting around watching movies, but it kinds of a fitting end to the Christmas holidays.
