The Day After

I've got Windows XP all settled and comfortable on the computer now, all my software installed and tested. I can now play all my PC games on the Mac (Max Payne 2 mostly) but I can also play my other games (StarCraft and Diablo 2) through Windows because they run better. I've got Luna VX running, Firefox and Thunderbird, a seperate forwarding e-mail address so both my OS's get a copy of my emails, arachnophila, photoshop and winamp. All my music and movies are on my external harddrive which is formatted in Fat32 so both the OS's can read and write to it, and the way boot camp handles the partitioning, I can read and write to the Windows partition from within OSX.

Last night I played a tiny bit of Diablo 2 with Tony... we only played for a half hour or something; we were both tired and I was distracted and having a hard time getting into the game, so we just decided to stop and knew we'd probably fall asleep before getting a chance to play again. I also played a bit of Max Payne 2 while Michelle watched earlier in the evening (before she fell asleep for the whole night!). That game.. roxxors. Seriously.

I find myself staring out the window at the beautiful rain and feeling content... the drops dancing around on the pavement, Kairi curiously watching every little activity, a beautiful grey sky, it's just so calming. I think I may walk to the store just so I can go out in and feel the rain hit my skin. I love days like these where I don't have a headache and I feel pretty comfortable and I can just watch the rain while working away on the computer.

Jay Gordon of Orgy

I've done a bit of programming today already (which isn't bad considering it's only 9am) and actually finished some functions I wanted out of the way. Now I'm back to some planning on paper, rather than actual coding, so I'm going to be doing that after I go for a walk and write this entry. Dealing with certain things in MySQL were quite frustrating today... for some reason the sql statements I were using just weren't returning the information I wanted, and I tested and I couldn't see the problem or why it wouldn't work. DATE_FORMAT(MAX(time), '') AS maxtime should return the highest time in a specific format, but it just returns NULL, even though that exact statement but with MIN works exactly as intended. Bah! Either way, I just threw out the idea of doing it the easy (yet apparently difficult) way, and did it the long way, by just grabbing the times, and writing my own functions to format and return them. I try to avoid extra work like that when I know the functions are built right into MySQL but I didn't want to waste anymore time on being frustrated.

I've been listening to a lot of Orgy lately, a band which I've listened to consistently for about six or seven years, which is a lot longer than most music I've listened to. I still consider Candyass (the first release) to be their best album, as it was just so ahead of the times, but I love just listening from the top of the list to the bottom (they have three albums). I've also been listening to The Kills and Placebo a bit, and Placebo is amazing.

I think I'm going to go get ready for that walk, and then I'll be back and programming away... Woo.
