Early Impressions

Was it a coincidence that I sat and played various Playstation 4 games quite a bit both Saturday and Today, and both days I had to take a migraine pill? No, I don't think it's too far fetched to say that it could be related to staring at the screen, my posture while I sit, or some mix of those types of things. I enjoyed the time playing games, but I don't really enjoy how I feel physically at the moment. On top of the headaches, I am also always so unbelievably tired that I yawn and can barely enjoy or pay attention to a game while I'm playing it. All these issues combined, I still managed to play more than my fair share of games this weekend, and these are some of my initial impressions.

Grand Theft Auto 5

This franchise always holds a spot in my heart, even though when I look back on my experiences, I've owned almost every single one, and never completed any. GTA3 was probably the one I spent the most time with, playing it for months, and then Vice City (but never getting far in the story). I played GTA 4 a little bit but it was at a time in my life where it was difficult for me to get into a game. GTA5 does provide some of the same fun that GTA3 provided, but in a much more realized, impressive world.

The game is what I expected, the GTA formula but in very big, very pretty world. It's actually more impressive than I expected, and more alive too. After all these years, a GTA game finally feels like it's taking place in a real, living world, where things are happening that have nothing to do with you, but with so much detail it's mind blowing.

The writing is amazing, the characters feel like real people, the dialogue is smart and I've really enjoyed it so far. As always, it can feel a little bit overwhelming at first when you are presented with a giant open world and not a lot of direction, but if you (if I) stick to following the missions and not getting lost, I don't realize how paralyzingly large the world is.

Fallout 4

Much like GTA, Fallout 4 is a giant open world game that can be easily overwhelming if not given enough direction. Of the 3D, modern Fallouts (3, Vegas and now 4), I've owned them all, attempted to play them all, and always gave up after not too long. The games really interested me, especially after my amazing experience with Skyrim, but I always was just overwhelmed with the freedom and lost interest. I chose to get Fallout 4 because of that interest, and because I know that if I stick to it, I can get a lot of enjoyment out of the game. It didn't hurt that it was half price either.

The game is very similar to the others in the series, and it'll give me the same issues in the long run, but it's up to me to not get sidetracked or lose interest. I really want to make it to the end of the game, and I won't buy another game until I do!

It's a beautiful, open world game with interesting characters and situations, although a little bit of a more indepth, direct story wouldn't hurt, and would actually help with the whole feeling lost thing. It's a good game so far, and I know there is a lot of potential for fun, so I just gotta stick with it.

Disgaea 5

Disgaea 5 is a Disgaea game. There isn't a lot more to say than that. It is almost exactly like all of the other entries in the series, but they've added a bunch of shortcuts, time savers, more info, detail, to make the game play a bit more streamlined.

The story is boring and uninteresting, almost embarrassing, but that's pretty much been the case since the second one. I don't play it for the story though, and the gameplay is fun. It's pretty much just a struggle to get through the cutscenes so I can actually get to play the game.

It's fun, and a great way to spend some time. It would be great if at some point in the future they made a Disgaea game with a more serious or interesting story though.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3

I've played most of the Call of Duty games, and Modern Warfare was always my favorite. I wasn't actually expecting a lot out of this game, but it was a pack-in with the PS4, so it wasn't much of a choice. I was actually really surprised how fresh and fun the game felt when I played it. It had been years since I played a Call of Duty, so I'm sure that helped, but it's kinda semi-science fiction, with robot powers and interesting abilities that make the game feel different then just running around with a gun

I've enjoyed the little bit I've played so far and was happily surprised with how great the game felt.

So those are my first impressions of the Playstation 4 games I've got. As I play each one and get a bit farther, I may write a bit more about the experiences as a whole.

Bath time, SNL time, sleepy time.
