A Day In The Life
This morning was pretty much you're normal morning, although I did sleep in. Yes, I didn't open my eyes until a quite late 8:00am. I did have trouble going to sleep last night, I had decided to write on here, and figured I couldn't very well play games while doing it, so I sat down, put on the first episode of Star Trek: TNG and wrote, but as I'm sure you know, the first episode of TNG is a double, so it was quite long. I needed the time for sure, as I had a pretty hard time getting back into the flow of writing. While I do still "think" in terms of writing quite a bit, it's nothing like it used to be. I decided to rewatch TNG due to a recommendation from Ben for a podcast that follows the series, where after you watch each episode, you can listen to a podcast episode that comments on the episode. It's a fun and interesting way to rewatch a series I've watch many times over, which gives it some new life. Okay, so I was talking about waking up and went on a tangent, but that's okay. I got up late, I try to wake up at 7:00am, the kids try to get me up at 7:00am, and I'd say I usually get up by around 7:15am, which is when my fitbit vibration alarm goes off. This morning I got out of bed at 8:00am.
Our typical morning follows the same routine. The coffee maker goes off around 7:15am, making 12 cups of coffee that will get us through to around 9:00am. The kids clocks turn yellow (from blue) indicating to them they're allowed to leave their room and wake us up if required, they're also allowed to just go down stairs and watch tv by themselves, but that rarely happens anymore. We get up, typically make toast for everyone (toast with peanut butter) and a cup of chocolate milk or "yop" (it's actually kefir mixed with milk.) From around 7:15am to 8:00am it's just waking up and relaxing. The kids watch TV, and I go on the computer and typically do half work stuff and half reddit stuff. For work, I review pull requests and organize the week's sprint. At 8:00am the family gets dressed, and get's all ready for the day. Ollie has to get his shoes and coat on, and sometimes his backpack, so we can walk to daycare. Jensen goes to my Mom's (she lives beside us), while we walk Ollie. Once we've gotten ready, walked with Ollie, and dropped him off, it's around 8:30am - 8:45am, and it's time to finish getting Jensen's lunch ready for school. We need to gather whatever we need for Jensen's day, put his lunch (generally alternating between a sandwhich/wrap and chef boyardee) in his backpack, and we walk him across the street to the school for him to start his day. He loves dropping his backpack off and then running back over to the fence as we leave to say goodbye. It's very sweet.
We come back home and start our work day by 9:00am. Fill up coffee, go down in the basement and work away at my work station until 12:00pm. At 12, I go up and grab a lunch. Wraps, sandwhiches, Italian wedding soup... I'm generally happy with my lunches. Today I had leftover linguine with asparagus, bacon bits, chicken and a creamy paramasen garlic sauce. I work while I eat, and then at 1:00pm I take my actual lunch hour break. Today for about 20 minutes of my break or so I actually went outside in the beautiful weather and continued some pool cleaning stuff. I vaccumed some of the dirt out, backwashed the filter and cleaned up a bit. I came back in and spent the rest of my hour walking on the treadmill and playing Final Fantasy 2. I'm just about done, and will need to pick a new treadmill game to play afterward. It'll probably be Final Fantasy Legend 3, or Final Fantasy 3. After lunch, I work until 3:20pm, go across the street and grab Jensen, and he goes to my Mom's. I then work until 4:20pm, and go and get Ollie from daycare. Once home from getting Ollie, it's usually time to start thinking about dinner.
Before dinner today, Bekki and I opened a bottle of Meldville Muscat Bubbles sparkling wine (the whole story of Meldville can be saved for another time) and relaxed in the sun for about 10 minutes before I went and started dinner. For dinner today I made home made hamburgers and spicy fries. Ollie picked the meal, and it was pretty tasty. With dinner, Bekki and I opened a bottle of Meldville 2016 Cabernet Franc, which is some of the greatest wine ever made, on par with 2012 Laileys and other comparables.
Into the evening, Bekki had to go to the AGM at the daycare which is mandatory or else you are charged $50. While she was there, I sipped on my wine and worked on remaking this website in modern technology, the kids relaxed and watched tv for a bit and then they played some Lego Batman 3 and Mario Kart 8. Bekki got home, we did books, teeth and bedtime.
After bedtime was over, I played a little bit of Burning Crusade Classic (World of Warcraft), and eventually turned on Dark Souls 2. I'll leave any kind of review for much later, as I'm only a few hours into the game. I for sure got pretty frustrated, and not at any boss encounters, but just simply not being able to figure out where I'm supposed to be going. That's always a part of souls games for sure, but this one seems way more unclear overall.
It's late now, and I need to get up at 7am, not 8am tomorrow, so I should really go to bed. I wanted to write about the pool journey, but maybe I'll save that for tomorrow.
