Turkey Day

pssh,one.hand?
Happy Turkey day to anyone who is Canadian and reading this... as for any Americans reading this, you probably have no idea what I'm talking about, but yes, in between building our igloos and cutting down trees, we do in fact celebrate thanksgiving. I spent the day at my grandpas house, where he cooked a big turkey dinner, with mashed potatos and gravy and corn and veggies.. mmmm; there were pickles and olives on the side, and colslaw and my moms special spinich egg thing. Emily and I awoke to a knocking on my door, as Ben was signaling to me that the phone was for me; it was my Mom calling to wake me up. It seems I had woke up at 10, as expected (I had set the alarm) but I guess I got up, turned it off and stumbled back to bed, all while I was still asleep (you know the 'turn the alarm off' state you get in the morning?) because I don't remember doing it, but there is just no other explaination. So anyway, my Mom told me I'd have about a half hour to get ready, which I thought was going to be a bit rushed but I said that I was still wanting to go, so I hung up the phone and went back into my room and woke up Emily. I informed her of the time we had and she quickly got up and proceeded to get ready, and I sat down and ate chips :P

My Mom arrived a few minutes later than she had said... about a half hour later to be exact, but that was only because my Sister decided to go pick up my Mom before coming to pick up me, since they had to go back this way anyway and it would give me some more time to get ready. I was pretty hungry, and my Sister hinted at maybe going to Wendys (by saying: we're going to Wendys) and so that was our first stop on the magical journey to Hamilton. I stayed in the car as I had my laptop on my lap and it would've been a hassle to put it all away again just for a few minutes, so Emily got a number one for me (just a hamburger and fries, with a sprite) and that was that; everyone had their meals and we were back on the road towards Hamilton. The most exciting part of the drive was of course the fact that I was watching mother fucking Quantum Leap the whole way there, on DVD no less! My Mom bought the first season of it on DVD awhile back and has yet to actually buy a DVD player to watch it on, so I requested it and watched it on my laptop during the drive there, and on the drive home. I loves it *hugs the DVD* I'm borrowing it for a little while, so I can watch the rest of the season :)

Overall the drive took about an hour and a half, if you include the trip to Wendys, and we got there around 2:30pm, and we were the first to arrive. For some reason, Grandpa had the door locked to the house, which has never been the case all of the years going there, so it stood out in my mind as strange, since it had never been that way before. He came and answered the door and we went in, said hello and sat down. He sat for about ten minutes before getting up and working on supper... which he did until the second we left (well, except for eating). We sat around as we usually do, chatting and dicussing random things. Shortly after arriving, everyone got there. Randy, Brian, Norman and Kristine as well as Angus; although it was more than are usually there, it wasn't too many, and I stayed comfortable through it all, which is definitley saying something. I broke out the laptop for a few minutes while I transfered some photos made available to me by Randy, onto my laptop, and while I had my laptop out, I had a bit of fun with the camera and took some shots. None of them are that good really, but there are some interesting ones I took on the highway as well, so I'll probably post a few up, and you'll notice them as you read them. Everyone was in a good mood and the afternoon went by quickly, and before I knew it, it was suppertime.

We all ate supper; I had white meat, a bit of dark meat, potatos, corn and some veggies, as well as a few slices of pickles and a couple olives, and some wine to drink, which was STRONG. It disgusted me more than straight whiskey; christ almighty it was strong.. blah. I immediatley drank a cup of coffee when I was done with it and it flushed it right out. Everyone enjoyed their meal, and had some pumpkin pie for desert, except me, because I don't like pie, and Dustin, cause he's pickey :P After supper was finished, we all sat down for a bit and relaxed while the turkey hit us.. and eventually it had come time to leave, as Mom and Lindy wanted to get home before Charmed, a show I've never seen, was on. So off we went, after saying goodbye to everyone, and back to Quantum Leap in the backseat again! Wooh! I only got through two episodes today but it was good to see Sam again.

When I got home I sat down and decided to update, and I guess that leaves us up to date really.

For those of you wondering what's going on with the new address, and old one... well, I can't really decide on what to do... I suppose I should just put a "I have Moved" sign up at the old address, but I just... I really didn't to open this version of the site before it was ready, and as you can tell by the menu on the left, it's not quite complete. It just frustrates me that I had to go through all that. Anyway, for those of you reading this entry, you can just keep coming here for your entries, and keep it in your favorites, because I'm going to eventually close the other site... not sure when, or how, but you should just start coming here and forget about the members.rogers one. I think it's just easier and less confusing that way. I will be obviously be working on this site a LOT before it's complete, and I'm going to keep with my original January 2005 goal that I set for completion. You won't see any of the work as it's done, it will all be unvieled on the same night... whether or not any of you look forward to that is a different story, but it's something I must do regardless. I know that some of you only come here to read my entries and nothing more, but I feel as a writer and as a web developer, that I need to do more, so I am. You can look forward to many more aspects of this site exploring gaming, music and movies, and even world news, so I hope you can look forward to that a bit.

I've been playing Final Fantasy 7 a lot still, and you can really tell I'm enjoying it because I'm already 35 hours into the game, and I'm still only on the first disc out of three. You have to remember that I beat 4, 5 AND 6 in under 35 hours, and so it really shows how much I'm getting out of 7. I'm trying to do everything I can, explore everywhere, find all the secrets and talk to everyone, get immersed in the story and really enjoy it. I had a bias going into this game, as the fanboys of the game have made it overrated and wrecked it, so I'm trying to keep expectations low and just take it in for what it is. So far I'm definitley enjoying the plot development the most and although they open the game with the weakest characters, as you get into it, much more interesting characters are revealed and developed, which I'm also enjoying. The poor and sometimes pathetic attempt at 3D modelling takes away any emotion conveyed on the 'field', the graphics in the battles are enjoyable and detailed, and the FMV's, if are FULL FMV's not FMVs with 3D sprites, are excellent to watch. For some reason, Square took the normal art director off the project, and put him on designing the battle graphics, which is horribly obvious because the 3d Field sprites look nothing like any other game, and look horrible. There are no facial features, there is not any showing of emotion, their hands are cubes, rather than circles even, and why this was decided upon is a mystery to me; I mean they're having a serious scene, where they are really trying to convey some emotion, so they show a close up shot of Aeris and she has no eyes and her hair is clipping through her head, coming out her face, and she raises her blocks (arms) and puts her block to her face (hand).. How am I supposed to connect to that, the entire time I'm distracted with how shitty it looks. I think they made a big mistake taking Yoshitaka Amano off of the character design, as it's painfully obvious it wasn't up to the normal Amano standards. As for the plot, it gets more interesting the deeper into the game you get, as would be expected. There are twists and turns that you wouldn't expect (except everyone EVERYWHERE talks about it, thus spoiling any surprises) and the challenge present in this game is somewhere around 3 or 4 out of 10, so a young child could probably play through the game, but it's fun none-the-less. The battle system is simple and straight forward, which I find refreshing after having played both 3 and 5, which have rather complicated systems. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to completely badmouth this game, I'm just pointing out some of the things I have found, because I could sit here FOREVER and talk about everything in Final Fantasys I like, I find it easier to talk about those that I don't, since they are far and few between. This would actually be one of the best Final Fantasys for someone to start on, due to it's simplicity and staightforwardness (I also believe 6 or 9 would be fine to begin with, and maybe 10, although the spheregrid might confuse some n0obs :P).

The entry script I've been writing is coming near to completetion, as you can tell by the fact that I'm actually using it to run my entire entry system, but it's not quite complete yet. The version I'm running right now is version 0.9.0, which has most of the features I wanted, but it's missing a few that I really wanted to put in, and couldn't in time, because I was kind of rushed to get this out and running. Multi-user support is a big one that I want to put in, in case you're running a website that you want two or more users to be able to post entries, this would be done using user name and passwords, and the main admin setting rights (such as the ability to edit, delete or make new entries) and is something I want to add in before it's officially complete. Also, there are a few tiny bugs that only I really know about, but I still want to fix them, and I still have to do the entire help/about section of the system, which explains to the users how to do things like navigate on their own using passing variables, and a section for admins about how to configure the script to their liking. Sooo, as you can see there is still a bit of work left to do..

and dude.. nomura did a sweet job at character design. i mean, he designed sephiroth. the single most badass villian ever to grace any game ever made ever. i agree amano is hardcore, but nomura did his job and he did spectacularly.
