I Slept Late

I didn't get to bed until late last night for a few reasons... one of the reasons being I had to help Michelle get Diablo 2 working correctly, and that took until around 1:30am, which wasn't really in the plan. Initially, the problem was that when she went into multiplayer, and click on TCP/IP, the host and join game buttons were greyed out, and it displayed 'Diablo 2 could not determine a valid ip address'. Obviously she has a valid ip, since she's online, can play other tcp/ip based games (StarCraft for instance), and I personally just recently set up her router, so I knew she had a specific ip address. Regardless of how stupid it was, I decided to reinstall Dablo 2, fresh from real cds (I lent her mine) and that's what we did. Once it was reinstalled, we discovered it was still fucked up just as before, so I did more google searching, and found this random, unrelated article that had something to do with Wine (not the drink) and it mentioned that having your hostname as localhost can screw up some, if not all, tcp/ip based applications. I knew it was a long shot, but I decided to just see, because there was nothing else left I could really think of. I had her open her system properties, go to computer name, and there it was, Computer Name: localhost. I had her change it to muchelle, restart the computer, and test Diablo 2. Ta da... fixed. Here is a google friendly tip:

Never have your computer name as localhost ever. Thank you.

To continue... once tcp/ip was working, I hosted a game, creating a new character (a druid) and sat there for a bit. Anthony joined after a few minutes (the minutes were spent creating a wonderful name for his character I'm sure) and still no Michelle. I went back into Windows by alt-tabbing to find some messages from her, informing me that it would simply stall at Please Wait... and eventually say it couldn't connect. Ugh, so we fixed one problem only for another. I got pretty frustrated at this point because it just seems unfair that one would have to go through so much trouble to get something so simple to work for you. Regardless, I told Anthony to help her from here on, because I needed a break. From what I understand, Anthony walked her though Port Forwarding on her new router (which we weren't sure would make a difference, since she wasn't hosting, but I mean... do you have a fucking better idea?? NO! YOU DON'T!), and he also made sure her Windows Firewall wasn't on (as per my request), which it wasn't. Even after all of that, it still wasn't connecting, and I was about ready to give up when I just quickly asked if she was sure she had downloaded the latest patch, and that's when the problem became apparent... she had actually forgot to install not only the latest patch, but the entire expansion set which we were trying to play. I guess that could explain the unable to connect thing. Obviously from there, I had her install the game, and then download the patch, and we were able to connect.

She joined my game and I showed her a few of the quick tips, changing her resoltuion, fading the auto-map, showing and hiding the map, parties.. the normal stuff you really have to know to play a multiplayer game without your party members getting pissed off at you. I offered to end the game, as it was already 1:20am or something, but Michelle insisted that we complete the first quest to celebrate the game finally working after a month of it not working, so we were off to the den. The game went well, Michelle wasn't too much of a noob for the most part, and I can see this becoming a fun new hobby to play between games of StarCraft.

After Michelle had gone to sleep, Anthony and I decided to play a couple games of StarCraft before he went to bed as well, and I was in the mood to play some, so I said sure, and off we went. Of course I had a nice bowl of good Salt and Vinegar chips, with a Coke to enjoy while playing; we managed to play two games on Hunters, horribly raping the opposing team each time. It was a nice 'before bed' session, and fun for all (woo!).

After Tony had gone to sleep, I decided it was time to relax and have my nightly 'lay in bed and watch a movie then go to sleep' time, and I chose Scary Movie 4 and Cheddar Popcorn. Scary Movie 4 was what you would expect if you have ever seen the other Scary Movies, although it was more similiar to 3 than the first two, creating a strange story that seems to flow through various movies, throwing in a few other strange parts that don't really fit in anywhere, but then trying their best to make fun as much stuff as they can. There were definatley a few really funny parts that I couldn't help myself giggle at, and there were a few dry parts as well. Probably the best parts were with Leslie Neilson, just because he is so at home in movies such as these (ala Naked Gun) and you can really see how comfortable he is with what's expected and he delivers wonderfully. Scary Movie has somewhat turned into more of a parody on pop-culture, rather than on horror movies, since one of the running gags in the movie is a spoof on Brokeback Mountain, which is obviously not a slasher flick, and War of the Worlds, which was a science fiction movie, not a horror movie (in the traditional sense). The parts from the Grudge which they make fun of (especially at the start) were very funny, and some parts making fun of Tom Cruise were well done too... all in all, the movie was barely held together by anything you'd call a story, and I think that's the only part that really makes it fall apart. It was funny enough to giggle at a few things, but there are so many more clever movies out there, Scary Movie 4 barely gets a 6 from me, and if I was in a bad mood, I'd say a 5. I'd wait for this one to be on TV (or just download it heh).

I woke up late today, most likely because I was up late watching that movie, but as much as I dislike waking up late and wasting the day, today I didn't care as much, as I've been in a generally foul mood as of late.

Tidus threw up (at least I'm assuming it was Tidus) for the third time in three days last night while I was sleeping, as I woke up with a nice orange puddle beside my bed. I'm not sure if I should be worried or pissed off that he's making my room smell like vomit all the time. I'm sure he's okay though... I think two of the three times it had fur in it, so it could just be because it's spring and he's losing his fur.

I bleached my hair last night (after trimming the back the night before)... I basically just bleached my roots cause they were an inch or two long again, and it turned out well except a couple places along my roots are still a bit dark, so I'm going to go over them again tonight. I took a couple pictures earlier, and when I finish this entry, I'll boot into iXP, resize them in photoshop, and edit them into this entry.

I have a feeling I'll write a goodnight entry today, so you can expect to hear from me tonight around 12 or so.
