Harry Nelson, My Grandpa

My Grandpa's name was Harry Nelson. Harry Nelson was born on November 11, 1922 and died on November 15, 2007.

My Grandpa loved his wife Florence, and his four children Carol, Eddie, Randy and Norman. He loved his grand-children Jennifer, Eddie, Scott, Brian, Michael, Lindy and Jordan.

My Grandpa served in the Canadian Armed Forces during World War II, as someone who drove a motorcycle to bring supplies to units. He also served as a peacekeeper in Beirut and later as an accountant for the military.

After retirement is the only time I ever knew my Grandpa, and the similarities between him and my Mom, as well as him and myself are astounding. In large groups of three or more he'd rarely say a word, he'd simply relax on his chair and observe. He would cook his amazing dinner, he would make sure all the dishes were done and put in the right spot before sitting down to observe once again. If you could get some time alone with him though, if it was just one or two people over, he'd talk much more than you'd expect and he was funny, and he'd smile and laugh, and he was just such a great person.

He was on MSN almost every day, if anyone ever came over to his house, even for a few minutes, he'd insist on making you an amazing lunch or supper, and of course there would always be an elaborate dessert made from scratch. He would always have new gadgets to help with his cooking, be it automatic potato peelers, portable convection ovens, brand new stoves... he had a passion for cooking for his family.

I have a never ending supply of wonderful memories of my Grandpa, starting from my earliest birthdays. I will always remember him, and for the rest of my life I will strive to be half the person that he was.

He will be missed by anyone who had ever met him.
Bye Grandpa

I'm glad you wrote this. It's sad but happy at the same time. Losing a grandparent, and any family is so hard. I am proud of you for being so strong through this. I'm glad I got to meet your grandpa. I wish I could have known him more.
I love you.
