Adium X
Great news if you are on OS X, as the greatest IM app to ever be created just released a new major version (in beta) and I've tested it out a bit and it's well worth the download and risk of it possibly having issues.

The biggest improvement, and also perhaps the only obvious one, is that Adium is now a Universal Binary, which means it runs super fast now (more-so on Intel Macs). In the older version, one of the only problems I had with the application was that it was slow to respond and was.. slow all around. Now it seems to have completely fixed that, and runs like a dream. Here is a quick overview of some of the larger changes:
- Major AIM, ICQ and .Mac improvements. This includes working File Transfer, and faster sign on.
- Improvements to the default look and feel of Adium.
- iTunes integration is much faster, and updates as soon as the song changes.
- Added global user profile and buddy icon settings. (Personal Preferences)
- General Account improvements. Accounts can now be disabled when not in in use, and friends can now sign on from your Adium without saving their information.
- Added an Xtras manager to better handle browsing and removing Xtras.
- Major improvements in privacy settings.
- Redesigned Previous Chat (Log) Viewer
- Requires Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later (Universal Binary)
- Full (VERY LARGE) change log can be found here
The only issue I've had so far is that it wasn't displaying Display Pictures on both the contact list or message windows, however after about five minutes, they appeared, which leads me to believe it just had to contact and download all of them. As I was trying to figure it out, I also re-set my message appearance preferences, and closed and reopened my message window, and then they appeared, so that may have something to do with it, however I stick by my 'it was downloading them' theory.
A better, more capable Adium that runs a smooth as silk? I would've never thought they could improve this app any more, but it looks like they did by a lot!
I would normally link to a direct download at this point, but since it's in beta, the versions are going to change and be released rather quickly, so the link may become obsolete fairly quickly, so instead of that, just go visit the beta page and download the latest build on your own.

I'm having problems with it logging me into MSN. Mainly, it never does. Strange... but I'll keep trying.
