Happy Birthday Jordan

By the time I hit the submit button, it will be my birthday, so I may as well make this my annual happy birthday post.

Happy Birthday Me!
28 years old?

Should I talk about past birthdays? Future birthdays? What I'm doing? I don't know, tough call. Let's see here...

While today wasn't my actual birthday, I was surprised today at work by Julie, who brought in a cake for me. They tricked me into going to the cafe for a second, and when I came back, the lights were out, and Chef, Julie and Al were there with the cake and candles lit and stuff, and I do have to say it caught me 100% by surprise, mainly because today was so crazy, the fact that they took time out of the insanity to do it, made it a bit extra special.

Work today was insane - we cooked for something like 350 people, and it was a non-stop thing, just... running around like insane people up until around 1:30pm. I was sweaty, tired, uncomfortable because of my sore throat. I won't go into too much detail, because it's just boring work stuff, but I'll go over really quickly what the events were.

The day started with the standard hotel continental, but for 110 people, which is pretty much the highest it could ever be.. and that ran from 8am to 10am. Following that, we had normal Sunday brunch, which is a new menu now, and due to the hotel breakfast being in the cafe, it went about thirty minutes late to give the servers time to flip the tables and set up the buffet, and that was for about 70 to 80 people, and that ran from 10:30am to 2:30pm. At 11:00am, there was a smallman breakfast for 100 people in the grand hall, and they ate like monsters, just food and more food and more food. That ran from 11am to probably 12:30pm or 1:00pm. Then on top of all that, we had another brunch for 40 people that ran from 12:15pm to 2:00pm. It was a shitload of work, a non-stop stressful day, and I couldn't wait to get home.

I got home, dead tired, with a bad headache, and feeling dirty, sweaty, sore, tired, in pain, uncomfortable... yeah, those things. Bekki had to go to work almost right away, so we just saw each other for a few minutes until she was gone. I pretty much stripped down to my underwear and laid in bed with the fan on me, trying to nap. I did fall asleep, but it was a terrible experience. My headache, the heat and my sore throat kept me waking up and just feeling intense discomfort. It really was a terrible, terrible nap.

Once I got up from my nap, I took some more tylenol, and somehow found the energy to get packed and ready (for the most part) for the trip to Wonderland tomorrow. It took a lot... a lot of will power to make myself do it, and I'm glad I did, but it was tough.

So here it is, night time, before my birthday, and I'm dead tired, hot, sore, merrh.

This time last year was very difficult for me, so difficult that I had to call and cancel my family get together celebrating my birthday, and instead just spent time at home, miserable and depressed. It was a time in my life where I was at my lowest - confused, hurt, desperate. It's is a great contrast to life now, how different it is. I've had good birthdays, and bad, or mixtures of both. Last year had a good moment, but descended into one of the worst times of my life. This year is different... I'm happy, lucky and in a better place.

This year's birthday will be memorable and a happy experience. Much like I expect the rest of this year will go, and years to come...

I hope I wake up tomorrow and my throat is better, and I have no sense of a headache, and everything is perfect. I'm tired, and will go to sleep soon... maybe read a tiny bit. Right now I'm watching Wedding Crashers, but it's getting late and I should sleep.
