Slightly Charted

Today was a day off... and I treated it as such. I played an unhealthy amount of games, walked to the grocery store, and had a good dinner.

I finished Uncharted today, a game that took me a long time to start, but once I had started, didn't take me long to finish. I was actually kind of worried that I wasn't going to get into the game, I had started it before and it didn't really catch me, but playing it again this time really got me addicted, and I played it a lot over the last week. I finished with about 8 hours on the clock, on normal difficulty.

I'm not going to review the game, but if you've been reading my entries over the last week or two, you know pretty much how I feel about the game. I found the story, the acting, the animation, the visuals, the sound... all of those things were excellent and very well done. The guns, the gunplay (firing and aiming), checkpoints and difficulty spikes were a little less than extraordinary. I found that all of the guns were interchangeable, and generally speaking (besides the grenade launcher and sniper rifle), all of the pistols and sub machine guns all felt and acted the exact same way, they were replaceable, and if I label didn't show up when switching to them, I wouldn't even be able to tell the difference between them. I kind of wish each gun had it's own feel and personality, I think it would've brought more depth to the action sequences, and on top of all that, if the guns had some form of upgrade system, it would've made it amazing.

The action itself was generally okay, but there are some quite frustrating issues that kept coming up. Mostly it was the aiming itself, it felt loose and difficult to quickly get the reticle where you want it, and the enemies would dodge too frequently, and it took a few too many bullets to kill a person (5 to 6 to drop someone). Enemies would come in waves, and they flank you and charge too quickly.

Anyway, overall, the platforming was awesome, the action was pretty satisfying, and I was left very happy with the game and the experience. I loved the characters, the acting and how the game flowed. I look forward to playing Uncharted 2 to see what they've improved and if any of the issues I found with the game are gone.

For dinner I made home made burgers and home made potato wedges, and it was super good.

I also played Final Fantasy 13 and 4, Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, and watched Game of Thrones with my lunch (a giant caesar salad).

Tomorrow I've got work, a stupid gala 3, which is a lot of work, and then I'm off again on Wednesday... so I guess it won't be too bad. I'm tired, and I'm going to sleep soon.
