Niagara: Day One
This post was written on the night of Tuesday September 18, 2012, but not posted until the date on the entry.
Survived the day driving to Niagara Falls, spent some nice time with Bekki eating a nice dinner, seeing some attractions and playing some games. We've had a good night, and now it's 11:12pm, I'm sitting in one of the King Jacuzzi suites in the Four Points by Sheridan in the middle of downtown Niagara Falls, one block from the falls. I can see the water and the mist from the falls from my window, and it's pretty awesome.
Today was quite an improvement over yesterday, as yesterday was one of the worst days I've had in a while, and I know that Bekki also had a tough day, so to spend today together doing such fun and unstressful things is a giant relief, deep breath, relaxing thing that is just indescribable.
We drove in the pouring rain to Niagara from about 1pm to about 3:30pm, stopping once at a Tim's to go the bathroom... we made decent time and enjoyed some music as we drove. Nothing really worth mentioning about the drive though, but the scenery was pretty nice, especially the stretch where you are driving with the lake right beside you on the left, and a pretty big mountain on your right, and it brings back some memories of driving around the cabot trail, but only a fraction as pretty.
Once we arrived at the hotel, we checked in and parked the car, which was just across the street, walked back to the hotel and went into our room. It's a nice room, with a nice king size bed, which is a fun and interesting preview to what we'll have soon at home. It even has a feather duvet, and it has feather pillows, only increasing my desire to get my own at home, so now I think I have my mind completely set on getting some.
We walked over to the Keg for dinner, which was on the ninth floor of a close by hotel, and it had a nice, clear view of the falls that was pretty impressive. We had a gift certificate for $40 at the Keg from our hotel package, which is why we decided to eat there, and we were pretty excited about it. We both got the same thing to eat, which was a Caesar salad to start, followed by a beef tenderloin entree. I got garlic mashed potatoes, Bekki got a twice baked potato, and we both enjoyed our meals. For dessert we split a creme brulee, with both of us enjoying a bailey's coffee with whipped cream.
After dinner we went for a walk and took this rail car down this really steep hill as a shortcut to get down to the falls. Turns out we could've walked around the block and probably got down faster, but whatever, we didn't know where we were going and this was easy. We got down there and took a few pictures, but it was getting dark and I didn't have my good camera, so we walked back to the hotel after a while.
We took a few minutes to relax but quickly decided to drive down to the area of town where all the games and attractions are. We had a $50 gift card to Dave and Busters, which is an arcade place, so we started there, playing a bunch of games and having fun, winning useless tickets you can trade in for human feces. We played for about a half hour probably, trying all the games that looked interesting, having fun, but eventually deciding to move on as we were getting a bit bored with the games and the prizes were completely stupid so there wasn't much motivation to continue playing. After leaving Dave and Busters, we walked over and bought a ticket to the Skywheel, which is a big ferris wheel that gives you a clear view of the city and the falls, and it was pretty cool because it was night time so the falls was light up a bunch of different colors, and there were some pretty cool views. After the skywheel, we went and had some Dairy Queen, and then headed to glow in the dark golf! It was pretty fun... we played 18 holes of mini-golf and Bekki won, but we had fun and we were pretty much completely alone, so there wasn't any anxiety, only fun.
After golf we drove back to the hotel because we were both dead tired. We showered, and then climbed into our awesome jacuzzi where we relaxed with some red wine. It was so relaxing and nice, it really made me want one in my dream home. It made your muscles and limbs feel weak in good ways... ah, good times. Afterward we watched a movie and eventually went to sleep.
That sums up the first day at Niagara and soon I'll write about the next day... you know, when I don't feel so dead tired.
